2 killed, several injured due to sour gas poisoning at refinery in NE Iran

Two people were killed and a number of others were injured due to poisoning caused by sour gas leakage at a refinery in the northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan Razavi on Thursday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
The incident occurred at 15:50 local time (1220 GMT) at Hashemi-Nejad Refinery, also known as Khangiran Gas Refinery, in Sarakhs County as sour gas leaked from an industrial valve that was undergoing overhaul, Fars quoted the county’s governor Hassan Nourizadeh as saying.
He said no explosion has occurred at the refinery, and further details will be announced.
Speaking to Fars, Reza Reza-Zadeh Feizabadi, director of the refinery’s public relations, also rejected rumors of a blast at the refinery, saying some media have cited that an explosion has caused the casualties, which is wrong.
He added the injured have been transferred to the hospital.
