341 killed, 613 injured as monsoon rains wreak havoc in Pakistan

A total of 341 people were killed and 613 others injured in rain-triggered accidents in parts of Pakistan between July 1 and Sept. 5, the National Disaster Management Authority said on Thursday.
Heavy rains have partially or fully damaged 26,732 houses, 40 bridges, and several schools across the country, said the authority, adding that nearly 1,323 livestock have also perished during the period.
The eastern Punjab province remained worst-hit in the rains, where 123 people lost their lives and 317 others sustained injuries due to torrential rains, followed by the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with 99 deaths and 134 injuries.
Pakistan’s meteorological department said that starting from Thursday, most parts of Pakistan experienced hot and dry conditions, with the monsoon season expected to come to a complete end by Friday.
