Civilian killed in Israeli drone strike on S. Lebanon

A civilian was killed Friday in an Israeli drone strike near a house in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese sources.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health, said in a statement that the strike targeted the village of Aita al-Shaab, Bint Jbeil district.
A Lebanese army intelligence source told Xinhua that the dead was identified as Mohammad Hussein Qassem, 65.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported Israeli artillery at a prefabricated house in the village of Maroun al-Ras, Israeli heavy machine gun fire at the outskirts of the town of Shebaa and village of Kfarchouba, as well as a stun grenade dropped by an Israeli drone between Maroun al-Ras and the village of Yaroun.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has formally been in effect, ending more than a year of cross-border clashes. The agreement stipulated Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon, but the Israeli army has maintained several posts along the border and continues to launch attacks, citing “threats” from Hezbollah.
