EU scales back 2035 ban, permits combustion engine cars

The European Commission unveiled a package of auto sector measures on Tuesday, including the scrapping of its effective ban on sales of new combustion
engine cars from 2035.
Under current EU rules, all new cars and vans from 2035 must have zero emissions. But under Tuesday’s proposal, CO2 emissions must be reduced by 90% from 2021 levels, instead of 100%.
