African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on Saturday congratulated Ismail Omar Guelleh on his re-election as president of Djibouti.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the AU said Youssouf took note of the official results announced by Djibouti’s electoral authority, which confirmed the outcome of the presidential election.
Djibouti’s incumbent President Guelleh, 78, was re-elected for a sixth term in office with 97.81 percent of the vote in Friday’s presidential election, according to the provisional results released on Saturday.
Youssouf commended the people of Djibouti for their “peaceful participation in the electoral process, underscoring their continued commitment to democratic governance, national cohesion, and stability.”
