Top EU diplomat, NATO chief agree on stronger European role in alliance

European Union’s (EU’s) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels on Wednesday, with both agreeing that Europe must take on a larger role within the military alliance.
“We agree that we must work together on strengthening Europe’s contribution to NATO. A more European NATO is long overdue,” Kallas wrote on social media platform X following the talks.
Their meeting also touched upon topics including the Ukraine crisis, Iran’s latest retaliatory strikes, and European military preparedness, according to Kallas.
